Dr Anibal Martinez

Doctor
MD (2001 Uruguay),
Diploma in Family Medicine in 2013, University of North Carolina, USA.

I am originally from Uruguay, South America. But I grew up in Sweden because my family had to leave the country due to a dictatorship in the 1980’s. We were refugees in Sweden for many years. I speak Spanish, Swedish and English.

I completed my degree in medicine in Uruguay in 2001. During medical school I did research and taught biomedical/translational research. After completing my degree I did clinical research and worked for the Pan American Health Organization. I came to the USA in 2004 to work for the National Institute of Health through a research Grant provided by the US government. I met my wife Martha in the US and the rest is history. I have been working in the US as a family physician since 2013 and I have taught Family Medicine at University of Colorado.

We have three beautiful children and we are very excited to call Kaiapoi our future home.

I am very passionate about being a GP. I love having the continuity of care and the ability to know my patients and their families as well as get to know the communities we can impact with the work we do every day. I also have experience in leadership, models of care in primary care, Public Health and Clinical research. I enjoy cooking, traveling and being with my family. The ocean and nature is my source of healing.
